Education for, in and about the Frontenac Arch Biosphere

Kid's Games and Activities

FRIENDS - THE ARTS – HIKING – ORIENTEERING – TRIPS - SWIMMING

Purpose:  Since 1995, this camp has helped children discover their connection with all living things.  Through guided exploration staff strive to foster a sense of respect and responsibility for the natural world.

Camp Structure:  A small camp atmosphere with approx. 24 campers between the ages of 7 and 11.

Staff:  Experienced outdoor educators and qualified teachers with years of experience working with children.

Program:  The program follows a purposeful progression from hands on activities to learning environmental concepts and finally participating in environmental action projects.

Health and Safety:  Safety and fun go hand in hand.  Instructors have current C.P.R. and First Aid Certification. A first aid kit is in the center and one will be carried with leaders at all times.  Children will be supervised at all times by a group leader.

Trips and Swimming: Mac Johnson Wildlife Area is a wonderful resource. However, we also want to introduce children to another natuarl are. Wednesdays or Tursdays, we travel to Charleston Lake Provincial Park. This site will enable us to swim and explore some unique habitats.

A Note On Swimming: A qualified lifeguard will be supervising the children while swimming. A buddy system, keeping track of all swimmers in and out of the water, will be adhered to at all times. All swimming will take place at the beach site. You may want your child to bring and use a jacket, if he or she typically uses one when swimming.

Environmentally Friendly Lunch Program: To help the children better appreciate our impact at Mac Johnson Wildlife Area, a litterless lunch project has been adopted. Parents and children are encouraged to choose lunch items that will not leave a mark on the environment.
